Exhibition of a commission
The architectural office BURO II commissioned photographer Philippe van Gelooven to photograph the construction process and realisation of the congress centre in the Chinese city of Guangzhou. The assignment was not a simple foto-shoot of a building site and of the finished project. Rather, the photographer was asked to create his own image of the construction process of this extraordinary building.

Building for China
Citygate in red refers to how the project opens itself to the historical landscape and how it marks the edge of the city as both an entrance and a sign of openness. ‘Weaving nature and town’ transforms a space on the outskirts of the town into a collective meeting place. A gate that does not set boundaries, but opens them.

Images as imagination
Fotograaf Philippe van Gelooven photography focuses on the relationship between the cultural historical roots of a building project and the architectural imagination of the current social environment and its users. The photographs of this very individual observation are now collected in the exhibition Images | Imagination, Citygate in Red.

This is not Philippe van Gelooven's debut. His - sometimes alienating - images of people in traditional attire in confrontation with the scale of buildings and contemporary architecture, resemble the vague images in our memory that hold on to the concurrence of present and past. www.phvg.be

During this exhibition a number of events will be organised, in cooperation with CROSSTALKS. The intention is to set up a constructive ‘crosstalking’ about all possible challenges, barriers and potential economic, cultural and creative surpluses of Chinese-Belgian cooperations and exchanges.
